FIELD 2

The wheat field and a bit of our prarie to the right at the back of the picture above will constitute field 2; sheep will be let out on this side, post is set up in the other end.

This gives a long and narrow field with an outrun of a bit over 300 meters. The fair ground with toilets, food stands, etc will be in our praries to the right.

Field 1 is just across the street in front of the houses at the far end. The river is to the right in this photo.

Since this field is very narrow and long, we have created a course which is a bit different than usual. :-)

TERRAIN 2

For those who haven't done a Maltese cross before, above is a simple schematic of how it will be set up on field 2 this year. Basically: remember where the sheep are supposed to go, and the movements of you and the dog pretty much follow.

The sheep should go through each lane as neatly as possible with tight turns, and then head for the shedding ring.

The dog needs to go all the way around to move the sheep between the entrances of the lanes and then pick them up and take them to the shedding ring.

The handler just moves down his/her side of the cross from the top entrance, to the middle entrance, and then down to the shedding ring. The handler can move around wherever he/she wants inside his extended quadrant of the cross, and can be as far from the cross as he/she wants!

Good luck!
